En muchos casos olas de todo tipo viajarán en línea recta, reflejándose en objetos y superficies en el mismo ángulo que golpean la superficie. Esto se llama la ley de la reflexión y es cierto tanto para las ondas sonoras como para la luz siempre que la superficie sea lisa en relación con la longitud de onda.
