Mientras que el período clásico se centró en figuras idealizadas, los artistas helenísticos exploraron una gama más amplia de temas, entre ellos los heridos y derrotados, y los muy jóvenes y muy viejos. Un nuevo interés por el drama y la participación del espectador también caracteriza este periodo.
