    La disciplina de Ingeniería de Biosystems surgió en la década de 1990 de los bastiones tradicionales de la Ingeniería Agrícola y de Alimentos con el objetivo de avanzar en soluciones de ingeniería hacia la creación de un mundo sustentable con abundantes alimentos, agua y energía, manteniendo un ambiente saludable. Si bien la disciplina ha seguido creciendo, también lo ha hecho la demanda de recursos educativos de calidad que los instructores puedan utilizar para impartir cursos de Ingeniería de Biosystems. La publicación de este libro marca un paso importante para satisfacer esa demanda.
