La forma más fácil de usar el análisis de costo-volumen-beneficio para una compañía multiproducto es usar dólares de ventas como medida de volumen. Para propósitos CVP, una compañía multiproducto debe asumir una determinada mezcla de productos o mezcla de ventas. La mezcla de productos (o ventas) se refiere a la proporción de las ventas totales de la compañía por cada tipo de producto vendido.
Para ilustrar el cómputo del punto de equilibrio para Wonderfood, empresa multiproducto que elabora tres tipos de cereales, asume los siguientes datos históricos (por ciento es un porcentaje de venta, para cada producto, toma la cantidad/ventas y multiplica por 100 para obtener el porcentaje):

Dado que lo que encontramos en nuestro ejemplo para Wonderfood es un total, necesitamos determinar cuántas ventas necesitarían cada producto para alcanzar el punto de equilibrio. Para encontrar los tres totales de ventas de productos, multiplicamos los dólares totales de ventas por el porcentaje de mezcla de productos (o ventas) para cada uno de los tres productos. La mezcla de productos para los productos 1, 2 y 3 es 60:30:10, respectivamente. Es decir, del total de $100,000 ventas, hubo ventas de $60,000 para el producto 1, $30,000 para el producto 2 y $10,000 para el producto 3. Una manera fácil de calcular el producto o mezcla de ventas es dividir las ventas de cada producto por las ventas totales como en la siguiente tabla:

Podemos calcular la cantidad que cada producto necesita para vender multiplicando las ventas totales de equilibrio requeridas x la mezcla de ventas para cada producto. Esto se calcula como:

¡Sé consciente! Predecir la mezcla de ventas puede ser extremadamente diferente. Si sabemos que necesitamos 125,000 dólares en ventas para alcanzar el punto de equilibrio pero la mezcla de ventas es diferente a lo que presupuestamos, los números aparecerán bastante diferentes (como debiste haber notado en el video). Si la mezcla de ventas es diferente a nuestra estimación, el punto de equilibrio no será el mismo.
