Una contribución significativa a la química de las soluciones acuosas proviene de la autodisociación del agua (\(\ell\)) (ver también\(\mathrm{D}_{2}\mathrm{O}(\ell\)) [1]). A\(298.15 \mathrm{~K}\) y presión ambiente,\(\mathrm{pK}_{\mathrm{a}} equals 14.004 [2]. Olofsson and Hepler [3] recommended a ‘best value’ for the standard enthalpy of self dissociation at ambient pressure and \(298.15 \mathrm{~K}\) igual a\(55.81 \mathrm{~kJ mol}^{-1}\) [4,5]. Hepler y sus colegas recomiendan un mejor valor por\(\Delta_{\mathrm{d}} C_{\mathrm{p}}^{0}\) igual a\(- 215 \mathrm{~J K}^{-1} \mathrm{~mol}^{-1}\) [5]; véase también [6-8] junto con [1] para detalles caracterizantes\(\mathrm{D}_{2}\mathrm{O}\).
El volumen estándar de autodisociación para el agua (\(\ell\)) en\(298 \mathrm{~K}\) es negativo, aprox.\(- 20 \mathrm{cm}^{3} \mathrm{~mol}^{-1}\), disminuyendo con el aumento de la temperatura [8,9].
