    Esa es la definición formal de un multiplexor. Informalmente, hay mucha confusión. Tanto los demultiplexores como los multiplexores tienen nombres, abreviaturas, símbolos esquemáticos y circuitos similares, por lo que la confusión es fácil. El término multiplexor, y la abreviatura mux, se usan a menudo para significar también un demultiplexor, o un multiplexor y un demultiplexor que trabajan juntos. Entonces, cuando escuchas hablar de un multiplexor, puede significar algo bastante diferente.
