The word ojalá is an important and interesting part of the Spanish language. The Arabs arrived in Spain in the year 711 and stayed for almost 781 years. One of the influences they left behind are words like ojalá. It originally meant May Allah grant that. Today it is used to express hope and is often translated at I hope that. When a sentence starts with ojalá the subjunctive is always used whether or not a que is included. For example
Ojalá haga buen tiempo este fin de semana. Ojalá que haga buen tiempo este fin de semana. I hope (that) the weather is nice this weekend.
Practice saying the word ojalá. It is three short syllables that have a fun rhythm. Remember that it is always followed by the subjunctive. So, let's practice.
