Son aquellas cargas o sistemas de cargas que vistos con el grado de precisión que tenemos no tienen ninguna estructura interna. Por ejemplo, los electrones.
Las cargas libres las supondremos puntuales, de modo que será suficiente para su especificación dar su carga, su masa y su trayectoria $\mathbf{r}(t)$. Ésta es solución de la ecuación dinámica de Newton (ecN):
