En la sección 9.5 voy a considerar el movimiento de dos masas,\(M\) y\(m\) alrededor de su centro de masa mutuo bajo la influencia de su atracción gravitacional. Probablemente voy a querer hacer uso de varias funciones de las masas, que definiré aquí, de la siguiente manera:

Masa total del sistema:

Sin nombre en particular:\[m_+ = m \left( 1 + \frac{m}{M} \right) . \label{9.4.4} \tag{9.4.4}\]

Relación de masa:\[q = m/M . \label{9.4.5} \tag{9.4.5}\]

Fracción de masa:\[ \mu = m/(M+m) . \label{9.4.6} \tag{9.4.6}\]

Los cuatro primeros son de dimensión M; los dos últimos son adimensionales. Cuando\(m << M\),\(\text{m} → m\),\(\mathfrak{M} → M\) y\(m_+ → m\).
