La morganita es la variedad rosa, melocotón o lila del berilo mineral. Es un silicato de berilio y aluminio coloreado con una cantidad traza de manganeso. La piedra lleva el nombre del banquero estadounidense y amante de las gemas, J. P. Morgan, poco después de que se descubriera por primera vez en 1902 en la República Malgache (Madagascar). En la actualidad se encuentran buenos ejemplos en Minas Gerais, Brasil y Madagascar.

Los berilos rojos (bixbitas) y rosados (morganita) se fabrican utilizando el proceso hidrotermal de Biron International en Australia. El agente colorante en estos sintéticos es el titanio opuesto al manganeso en sus contrapartes naturales.
