La tabla distingue entre 1) formas costeras primarias (deltas, estuarios, llanuras y llanuras, y costas de barrera y laguna); 2) formas costeras secundarias basadas en la influencia de la acción de las olas y la acción mareomotriz y 3) sistemas ricos en sedimentos y pobres en sedimentos. Para cada clase resultante, se da un ejemplo y se vincula a los diagramas ternarios de la Fig. 2.43. Este último incluye el diagrama de clasificación triangular de la Fig. 2.44. Las morfologías características enumeradas en la Secc. 2.7.1 también se puede colocar en los diagramas ternarios de la Fig. 2.43.
