    Hay una señal de cruce de ferrocarril adelante en la carretera, así que hay un cruce de ferrocarril adelante. Se trata de un simple razonamiento en forma de argumento basado en signos. Sin embargo, estos argumentos ocurren sin el uso de la palabra “signo”. Aquí hay otro ejemplo.

    Mira, se acaba de mover. ¡Está vivo! ¡Dispara!

    El argumento aquí es que el movimiento es una señal de estar vivo, entonces, desde que se movió, está vivo. Sin embargo, no todos los signos son pruebas completamente sólidas. El hallazgo mueve la arena, pero la arena no está viva.
