Contrario a lo que generalmente se supone, el aire exterior no se enfría dentro del acondicionador de aire y luego se suministra al interior. Solo la energía térmica es movida o bombeada por el aire acondicionado desde un ambiente de baja temperatura (dentro del edificio) a un ambiente de alta temperatura (fuera del edificio).
