Todas las celdas de memoria ubicadas en la CPU se llaman registradas, y se implementan como chanclas D. Estas chanclas también se llaman ram estático, o SRAM. En esta CPU, los valores de los $ac y $pc, que almacenan el estado actual de la CPU, se implementan como un grupo de 16 chanclas. Estos componentes están enmarcados en rojo en la Figura 11.1.1. Sin chanclas, sería imposible mantener el estado de la CPU, y la CPU no podría hacer ningún trabajo útil.
El número de registros en una CPU varía ampliamente entre los tipos de CPU, e incluso dentro de una CPU misma. Una CPU Acumuladora más normal tendría varios registros más, como un Registro de Acceso a Memoria ($mar) y un registro temporal ($temp).
