    Este libro surgió de nuestra sensación de que no estaba disponible un texto que cumpliera con nuestro enfoque de Combinatoria Aplicada. Debido al diverso conjunto de instructores asignados al curso, el texto estándar era aquel que abarcaba todos los temas imaginables (y luego algunos), pero proporcionaba poca profundidad. Hemos tomado un enfoque diferente, atacando los temas centrales de la descripción del curso para brindar exposición, pero tomándonos el tiempo para profundizar en áreas seleccionadas para dar a los estudiantes una mejor idea de cómo funciona la combinatoria. También hemos incluido algunos resultados y temas que no se encuentran en otros textos de este nivel pero que ayudan a revelar la naturaleza de la combinatoria a los estudiantes.
