El fundador y CEO de PowerSki, Bob Montgomery, pasó dieciséis años diseñando el Jetboard y llevándolo a producción. En un momento dado, en sus esfuerzos por conseguir el diseño correcto, había construido treinta prototipos diferentes. No hace falta decir que este proceso tomó mucho tiempo, pero aun así, Montgomery pensó que podría manejar el diseño del motor sin la ayuda de una computadora. En poco tiempo, sin embargo, se dio cuenta de que era imposible hacer un seguimiento de todos los cambios.
