    Este proyecto se inició a finales de la década de 1980 como un medio para complementar (o en algunos casos para sustituir en gran medida) los tratamientos convencionales de libros de texto de diversos temas en los cursos de Química General y Química Ambiental. El propósito fue en la mayoría de los casos brindar alternativas a lo que parecían ser los tratamientos estandarizados bastante superficiales de ciertos temas presentados en muchos libros de texto comerciales.
