Los datos tabulados se expresan en términos de un gas ideal puro (sin mezcla) a 1 bar, conocido como condiciones de estado estándar (SSC). Los estados estándar se indican con el símbolo o. Estos valores se tabulan a una temperatura específica, pero esa temperatura puede variar y no se incluye en la definición de SSC. Ningún gas real tiene un comportamiento perfectamente ideal, pero esta definición del estado estándar permite hacer correcciones de no idealidad de manera consistente para todos los diferentes gases.
