Principio de Le Chatelier
El equilibrio químico fue estudiado por el químico francés Henri Le Chatelier (1850-1936) y su descripción de cómo responde un sistema a una tensión en el equilibrio se conoce como el principio de Le Chatelier: Cuando un sistema químico que está en equilibrio es perturbado por un estrés, el sistema responderá en para aliviar el estrés. Las tensiones a un sistema químico implican cambios en la concentración de reactivos o productos, cambios en la temperatura del sistema, o cambios en la presión del sistema. Discutiremos cada una de estas tensiones por separado. El cambio a la posición de equilibrio en cada caso es un favor de la reacción directa o un favor de la reacción inversa. Cuando se favorece la reacción directa, las concentraciones de productos aumentan, mientras que las concentraciones de reactivos disminuyen. Cuando se favorece la reacción inversa, las concentraciones de productos disminuyen, mientras que las concentraciones de reactivos aumentan.
