Esto se llama homeostasis. Estas condiciones constantes son esenciales para la supervivencia y el buen funcionamiento de las células, tejidos y órganos del cuerpo. La piel, por ejemplo, tiene un papel importante en mantener constante la temperatura del cuerpo. Los riñones mantienen la concentración de sales en la sangre dentro de límites y los islotes de Langerhans en el páncreas mantienen el nivel correcto de glucosa en la sangre a través de la hormona insulina. Mientras los diversos procesos corporales permanezcan dentro de los límites normales, el cuerpo funciona correctamente y está sano.
