Las palmas proporcionan materiales que incluyen ratanes, aceites y dátiles. El trigo se cultiva para alimentar tanto a poblaciones humanas como animales. El fruto de la flor de la boll de algodón se cosecha como una bolita, con sus fibras transformadas en ropa o pulpa para papel. La llamativa amapola del opio es valorada tanto como flor ornamental como fuente de potentes compuestos opiáceos.
