Una variable es un símbolo que representa otro valor (igual que “X” en álgebra). Podemos crear una variable asignándole un valor usando el operador <-
. Si entonces tecleamos el nombre de la variable R imprimirá su valor.
> x <- 4
> x
[1] 4
La variable ahora representa el valor que contiene, por lo que podemos realizar operaciones sobre ella y obtener la misma respuesta que si usáramos el valor en sí.
> x + 3
[1] 7
> x == 5
[1] FALSE
Podemos cambiar el valor de una variable simplemente asignándole un nuevo valor.
> x <- x + 1
> x
[1] 5
Una nota: También puedes usar el signo igual =
en lugar de <-
