El ppo de BABINET relaciona la onda difractada por una abertura con la onda difractada por un obstáculo de la misma forma (aberturas complementarias). Si sabemos cómo es la onda difractada por la abertura sabemos cómo es la onda difractada por el obstáculo. Aplicando la fórmula \(10.1\) al

El campo resultante es la onda incidente (primer término) menos el campo difractado por la abertura, \(\hat{u}\left(P_{0}\right)\). El principio de BABINET (que se puede escribir como teorema) es entonces
