Durante el crecimiento de la corriente en un inductor, en un momento en que la corriente es\(i\) y la tasa de incremento de la corriente es\(\dot i\), habrá una contraCEM\(L\dot i\). El ritmo de hacer trabajo contra esta espalda EMF es entonces\(Li\dot i\). El trabajo realizado en el tiempo\(dt\text{ is }Li \dot i \,dt = Li\,di \) donde\(di\) está el incremento de la corriente en el tiempo\(dt\). El trabajo total realizado cuando la corriente se incrementa de 0 a\(I\) es
