Las funciones hiperbólicas son funciones importantes definidas en términos de exponenciales:\[\begin{align} \sinh(x) &= \frac{1}{2}\left(e^{x} - e^{-x}\right) \\ \cosh(x) &= \frac{1}{2}\left(e^{x} + e^{-x}\right) \\ \tanh(x) &= \frac{e^{x} - e^{-x}}{e^{x} + e^{-x}}\end{align}\] Tienen propiedades que son intrigantes similares a las funciones trignométricas, tales como:\[\begin{align} \sinh(x+y) &= \sinh(x)\cosh(y) + \cosh(x)\sinh(y) \\ \cosh(x+y) &= \cosh(x)\cosh(y) + \sinh(x)\sinh(y)\end{align}\] Debido a estas identidades, a veces es más conveniente trabajar con funciones hiperbólicas en lugar de exponenciales. Durante este curso, aprenderemos sobre la intrincada relación entre las funciones hiperbólicas y trigonométricas.
