Supongamos que la fuerza externa que actúa sobre el sistema no es cero,

y de ahí que el sistema no esté aislado. Por la Tercera Ley de Newton, la suma de la fuerza en los alrededores es igual en magnitud pero opuesta en dirección a la fuerza externa que actúa sobre el sistema,

Es importante señalar que en la Ecuación (10.8.2), todas las fuerzas internas en los alrededores suman cero. Así, la suma de la fuerza externa que actúa sobre el sistema y la fuerza que actúa sobre el entorno es cero,

Ya hemos encontrado (Ecuación (10.4.9)) que la fuerza externa que\(\overrightarrow{\mathbf{F}}^{e x t}\) actúa sobre un sistema es igual a la tasa de cambio del impulso del sistema. De igual manera, la fuerza sobre el entorno es igual a la tasa de cambio del impulso del entorno. Por lo tanto, siempre se conserva el impulso tanto del sistema como del entorno.
Para un sistema y todos los alrededores que sufren cualquier cambio de estado, el cambio en el impulso del sistema y su entorno es cero,

La ecuación (10.8.4) se conoce como el Principio de Conservación del Momentum.
