Derivaremos una fórmula para la energía alimentada a un oscilador por una fuerza externa arbitraria dependiente del tiempo.
La ecuación del movimiento se puede escribir
\(\frac{d}{d t}(\dot{x}+i \omega x)-i \omega(\dot{x}+i \omega x)=\frac{1}{m} F(t)\)
y definiendo\(\xi=\dot{x}+i \omega x\), esto es
\(d \xi / d t-i \omega \xi=F(t) / m\)
Esta ecuación de primer orden se integra
\(\xi(t)=e^{i \omega t}\left(\int_{0}^{t} \frac{1}{m} F\left(t^{\prime}\right) e^{-i \omega t^{\prime}} d t^{\prime}+\xi_{0}\right)\)
La energía del oscilador es
\(E=\frac{1}{2} m\left(\dot{x}^{2}+\omega^{2} x^{2}\right)=\frac{1}{2} m|\xi|^{2}\)
Entonces, si manejamos el oscilador todo el tiempo, con cero de energía inicial,
\(E=\frac{1}{2 m}\left|\int_{-\infty}^{\infty} F(t) e^{-i \omega t} d t\right|^{2}\)
Esto equivale al resultado de la teoría de perturbación cuántica mecánica dependiente del tiempo:\(\xi, \xi^{*}\) son equivalentes a los operadores de aniquilación y creación.
