La descripción de los efectos básicos quantomecánicos, dada en el capítulo anterior, puede extenderse a dimensiones superiores de manera obvia. Es por ello que este capítulo se centra en los fenómenos (como el efecto AB y los niveles Landau) que no pueden tener lugar en una dimensión por razones topológicas, y también en algunos\(3 D\) problemas clave (como la aproximación Born en la teoría de la dispersión, y la axial- y esféricamente- sistemas simétricos) que son importantes para numerosas aplicaciones.
