Si todas las fuerzas externas en un sistema son cero, entonces la ecuación (10.5) se reduce a

Un sistema de partículas sin fuerzas externas que actúan sobre él se llama aislado. La tercera ley de Newton nos dice así que el impulso cinético de un sistema aislado no cambia con el tiempo. A esta ley se le llama la conservación del impulso.
