Uno de los organismos más comunes en el Caribe son los erizos de mar del género Diadema. Estos erizos de mar enfrentan grandes amenazas en el Caribe. Las poblaciones de erizos de mar están disminuyendo a un ritmo creciente. Los erizos de mar son una especie clave y son responsables de la regulación del crecimiento de la fauna en todo el mundo. Son una parte muy importante de los ecosistemas marinos que deben mantenerse y protegerse. Las diadema se encuentran en todas las áreas tropicales del océano.
