pH (acidez y alcalinidad)
El agua de mar promedia alrededor de 8.1 en una escala del 1 al 14 (1 es ácido, 14 es básico y 7 es neutro).
El agua de mar es un sistema tamponado, lo que significa que está controlado en un rango.
Si se vuelve demasiado ácida disuelve CaCo 3, si es demasiado básico precipita CaCo 3 El
agua de mar se vuelve ligeramente más ácida cerca del CCD (profundidad de compensación de carbonato). Los animales con conchas carbonatadas y pruebas necesitan agua ligeramente básica (alcalina) para precipitar y mantener sus conchas. Este es un problema potencialmente ENORME para los océanos con la creciente acumulación de CO 2 en la atmósfera y los océanos.
