- A menudo basamos las premisas de nuestro razonamiento en lo que pensamos que recordamos. Como solemos confiar en nuestros recuerdos, generalmente se piensa que tales premisas son especialmente seguras.
- La memoria implica inferencia. Esta inferencia está influenciada por nuestras expectativas, formas de etiquetar datos e incluso nuestros sesgos, deseos e interés propio, las mismas cosas que tan a menudo conducen a un razonamiento defectuoso.
- La memoria es susceptible a diversos tipos de errores, por lo que necesitamos un razonamiento crítico para evaluar afirmaciones sobre lo que recordamos.
La memoria humana es sumamente impresionante, pero nos puede hacer estallar, y algunos de sus errores conducen a errores en el razonamiento. ¿Qué tan buenos son nuestros recuerdos? Todos hemos usado cientos de teléfonos. ¿Qué letras van en qué botones (Figura 7.1.1)?

Hemos visto miles de centavos de Lincoln-head. ¿Qué imagen es correcta (Figura 7.2.1 en la siguiente sección)?
Si no podemos recordar los detalles de objetos muy familiares como teléfonos y centavos, tal vez nos preguntemos con qué precisión la gente recuerda los detalles de las cosas que ven solo brevemente. ¿Qué tan confiable, por ejemplo, es probable que sea el testimonio de testigos presenciales?
