Es raro pedir prestado de la modalidad mayor durante un pasaje en clave menor. El tónico mayor suele funcionar como VivV/IV si no es el último acorde de una pieza, y los 6^ y 7^ elevados ocurren naturalmente como parte de la escala melódica menor.
En menor, el único lugar para pedir prestado de la modalidad mayor es al final de una pieza en menor, con el uso del acorde mayor II en lugar de menor ii.
Si bien el 3er Picardía (el tercio mayor por encima de la tónica) se encontró con mayor frecuencia en la época barroca, se ha utilizado desde entonces hasta ahora, aunque con menor frecuencia.
