El gas ideal EOS es inexacto tanto cuantitativa como cualitativamente. Cuantitativamente, el gas ideal no se condensará sin importar a qué presión y temperatura esté sometido el sistema. Cuantitativamente, las presiones y volúmenes utilizados por el modelo de gas ideal son mayores que los valores que tendría un gas real. Estas son las principales razones por las que los científicos han hecho un esfuerzo por ir más allá del gas ideal EOS, simplemente porque no aplica para todos los casos de interés.
