En mayo de 2012 la IUPAC aprobó el nombre “Livermorium” (símbolo Lv) para el elemento 116. El nuevo nombre honra al Laboratorio Nacional Lawrence Livermore (1952). Un grupo de investigadores de este Laboratorio con el grupo de investigación de elementos pesados del Laboratorio Flerov de Reacciones Nucleares participaron en el trabajo realizado en Dubna sobre la síntesis de elementos superpesados incluyendo el elemento 116. Los átomos de Lv se formaron por la reacción de Cm-248 con Ca-48. El Lv-292 resultante decae por emisión alfa a Fl-288.
