La destilación al vapor es análoga a la destilación simple, siendo la principal diferencia que el vapor (o agua) se usa en el matraz de destilación junto con el material a destilar. Experimentalmente las configuraciones se disponen más o menos iguales (Figura 5.56), con pequeñas diferencias siendo cómo se agrega el vapor al matraz: ya sea indirectamente si hay una línea de vapor disponible en el edificio, o directamente hirviendo agua en el matraz.
