En el capítulo anterior, observamos que el número de operaciones de punto flotante requeridas para resolver un sistema\(n \times n\) tridiagonal se escala como\(\mathcal{O}(n)\) mientras que para un\(n \times n\) sistema general (denso) escala como\(\mathcal{O}\left(n^{3}\right)\). Logramos esta reducción significativa en el conteo de operaciones aprovechando la escasa densidad de la matriz. En este capítulo, consideraremos la solución de sistemas lineales dispersos más generales.
