En el siglo XIX, precisamente estos tres grupos proporcionaron el grueso de los suscriptores a la Revista des mathématiques élémentaires y publicaciones periódicas similares. El Diario de las Mujeres, publicado desde 1704 hasta 1841 y rico en contenidos matemáticos, también podría apuntar a un grupo social que estuvo en gran parte excluido de Oxford-Cambridge y de las escuelas públicas Latinity y Grecity, a las que ni siquiera las mujeres gentiles tenían acceso.
