Visión general
La reactividad del carbono alfa se puede agrupar en tres categorías principales: sustitución alfa, condensación y descarboxilación. Los carboniloos alfa, beta-insaturados pueden sufrir reacciones de adición conjugada que se llaman Adiciones de Michael cuando el nucleófilo es un carbono alfa. Debido a que los reactivos, reactivos y productos pueden contener múltiples grupos funcionales, es útil enfocarse inicialmente en las conversiones generales entre grupos funcionales ANTES de indagar en los detalles de cada ruta de reacción. También es útil etiquetar los carbonos alfa y beta para ayudar a seguir la reactividad. A continuación se muestra una visión general de las reacciones que se estudiarán en este capítulo.
