Un par redox es una combinación de un metal de transición con un ion de otro metal de transición. Estas parejas sirven como donantes de electrones además de carbohidratos halogenados a compuestos con dobles enlaces deficientes en electrones. Existe cierta incertidumbre en cuanto a si un radical libre o un compuesto organometálico es el intermedio en este tipo de reacción. La evidencia estereoquímica respalda la vía radical, pero los efectos solventes indican una situación más complicada.
