El periodo de la Pax Romana incluyó tres dinastías distintas:
- La dinastía juliana: 14 — 68 CE - aquellos emperadores relacionados (por sangre o adopción) con la línea de César.
- La dinastía Flavio: 69 — 96 CE - un padre y sus dos hijos que tomaron el poder tras una breve guerra civil.
- Los “Cinco Buenos Emperadores”: 96 — 180 CE - una “dinastía” de emperadores que eligieron a sus sucesores, en lugar de pasar el poder a sus familiares
