    Los sistemas de coordenadas más utilizados en el análisis de ingeniería son los sistemas cartesianos, cilíndricos y esféricos. Estos sistemas se ilustran en las Figuras\(\PageIndex{1}\)\(\PageIndex{2}\), y\(\PageIndex{3}\), respectivamente. Nótese que el uso de variables no es universal; en particular, es común encontrar el uso de\(r\) en lugar de\(\rho\) para la coordenada radial en el sistema cilíndrico, y el uso de\(R\) en lugar de\(r\) para la coordenada radial en el sistema esférico.
