Este capítulo final revisa dos enfoques alternativos a la mecánica analítica, cuyo mayor valor es un paralelo más cercano a la mecánica cuántica en general y su aproximación cuasiclásica (WKB) en particular. Uno de ellos, el formalismo hamiltoniano, también es conveniente para la derivación de un importante resultado asintótico, la invarianza adiabática, para sistemas clásicos con parámetros que cambian lentamente.
