    La instrucción en la evaluación funcional introduce a los alumnos a la evaluación funcional (FA), que incluye una variedad de enfoques de evaluación (indirectos, observacionales y experimentales) para identificar la causa del comportamiento desafiante de un individuo con el propósito de diseñar tratamientos efectivos. La FA es obligatoria por la ley federal y es un enfoque empíricamente reconocido para el tratamiento de individuos con comportamientos desafiantes (por ejemplo, comportamientos disruptivos, autolesionistas y agresivos). La instrucción en FA es esencial para los estudiantes que algún día ingresarán a profesiones como educadores, psicólogos, trabajadores sociales, consejeros o profesionales de la salud mental.El propósito de este libro de texto es brindar instrucción en habilidades de FA para preprofesionales en los campos de la educación y la psicología. Este recurso complementario proporciona el contexto, los antecedentes y el conocimiento para facilitar la adquisición por parte de los estudiantes de los métodos, la toma de decisiones y las habilidades involucradas en la realización de FA. Cada capítulo comienza con preguntas de enfoque diseñadas para promover el pensamiento reflexivo y termina con preguntas de discusión. Para promover la aplicación de la FA en diversas situaciones y enseñar lecciones importantes, los estudios de casos de individuos con comportamientos desafiantes, actividades interactivas y oportunidades de práctica están incrustados en los capítulos. Además, el texto incluye los ingredientes para facilitar el juego de roles de los estudiantes y el ensayo de habilidades apropiadas de FA mientras trabajan en grupos cooperativos y utilizan la capacitación basada en el desempeño.
