Este capítulo aplica la teoría del equilibrio a una variedad de sistemas químicos de más de un componente. Se utilizarán dos enfoques diferentes según corresponda: uno basado en la relación\(\mu_i\aph=\mu_i\bph\) para el equilibrio de transferencia, el otro basado en\(\sum_i\!\nu_i\mu_i=0\) o\(K=\prod_i a_i^{\nu_i}\) para el equilibrio de reacción.
